Reforming Māori medium education – have your say in NZ’s review.

Kia ora e te whānau o Birkdale,
This message is specifically for whānau Māori. I’ve sent it to our entire mailing list in case we don’t have up-to-date ethnicity information and iit s relevant for you and your child/ren. The message is about important work being done currently by Te Pae Roa and how you, as whānau Māori, can have your voice heard. If you are invested in Māori medium education, or would be if it were different, please register and attend a webinar to find out more.

Forwarded Message:
Te Pae Roa is an independent Ministerial Advisory Group looking at how we can reform our education system to support Māori medium education and grow Kaupapa Māori education. This is an important kaupapa for all our tamariki, mokopuna and their whānau who want to start or transition into an uninterrupted Kaupapa Māori education pathway and work with a system that supports its growth.

The second round of Te Pae Roa independent engagement with Māori stakeholders will start via a webinar series. This phase of engagement will be based on design options developed following the recent MOE/Te Pae Roa workshops, and will culminate in a second report by Te Pae Roa with subsequent recommendations to the Minister for legislative change.

Webinar series
The dates for the webinars are: July 19, 22, 28 and 29. Anyone can join any session, but you will need to register – as below.
Chair Wayne Ngata and fellow members Moe Milne, Rahui Papa, Miriama Prentice and Jason Ake want to hear directly from whānau, kaiako, iwi, community and education leaders. Everyone is welcome to attend and encouraged to provide feedback.

We are utilising Ministry and wider networks including regional and iwi leadership to involve people in the work. It is important to have sufficient engagement to demonstrate a mandate for change, and we are hoping to encourage a wide number of Māori to engage and to share their aspirations.
